James Bond Island, or Koh Tapu, is one of Thailand’s most iconic and recognizable landmarks. Situated in Phang Nga Bay, this dramatic island gained worldwide fame after featuring in the James Bond film "The Man with the Golden Gun." My journey to James Bond Island aboard the Ocean Dreamer was filled with excitement and awe as I explored the breathtaking landscapes and hidden wonders of this famous destination.
Our adventure began at Ao Po Grand Marina in Phuket, where the Ocean Dreamer was docked. The journey to Phang Nga Bay was a short sail, covering about 25 kilometers. As we set sail, the anticipation grew. The beauty of the Andaman Sea and the promise of exploring a movie-famous island added to the excitement.
Phang Nga Bay is renowned for its stunning limestone karsts that rise majestically from the emerald-green waters. As we navigated through the bay, the towering cliffs and lush greenery created a surreal and otherworldly atmosphere. The calm waters and gentle breeze made for a smooth and enjoyable sail, setting the stage for an unforgettable adventure.

Approaching James Bond Island, or Koh Tapu, was a breathtaking experience. The island’s distinctive limestone pinnacle, rising 20 meters above the water, stood out against the backdrop of the bay’s tranquil waters and surrounding cliffs. This unique rock formation has become a symbol of Phang Nga Bay and a must-visit destination for travelers from around the world.
We anchored the Ocean Dreamer in a designated area and took a smaller boat to the island. As we drew closer, the sheer size and dramatic shape of Koh Tapu became even more impressive. The island's fame as a filming location has made it a popular tourist spot, but its natural beauty remains untouched and captivating.

Our exploration began with a visit to the nearby Koh Phing Kan, also known as James Bond Island’s twin. This larger island is characterized by its steep cliffs, hidden caves, and dense vegetation.
One of the highlights of Koh Phing Kan is a large leaning rock that appears to defy gravity, a natural wonder that draws many visitors. We hiked along the well-marked trails, which led us to stunning viewpoints overlooking the bay. The views were absolutely breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the surrounding islands and the turquoise waters of Phang Nga Bay.

The cave is adorned with impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and the sound of water dripping echoed through the cavern. It was a mesmerizing experience, reminiscent of scenes from an adventure movie.

The fresh seafood, prepared with traditional Thai flavors, was a highlight of our visit. The villagers were welcoming and eager to share their stories, adding a cultural depth to our adventure.
The local markets offered a variety of handicrafts, souvenirs, and fresh produce. We spent some time browsing the stalls, interacting with the vendors, and learning about the local crafts and traditions. It was a wonderful way to support the local community and take home some unique mementos from our journey.
